 Cultural Feminism

Cultural feminism: Cultural feminism refers to the separatist idea that women innately possess an evolved essence, which distinguishes them from men, giving them societal advantages that culture at large has historically qualified as weaknesses. Cultural feminists believe that a woman’s perspective should receive more credence. Critics argue that cultural feminism relies too heavily on the “essentialist” tenets of society’s gender binary.  (from Feminism reddit)

Cultural feminism is a revolutionary movement that aims to change society to adapt to women rather than change women to adapt to society.

I believe that empathy is about recognising the rights of someone who is different from you: it really beats the point if men can only empathise with women if we change and strive to be as masculine as possible, it means they still lack the capacity to empathise with anyone different from them, and as women will never be more men than men, that means fighting to reduce difference between men and women will never, even at its most extreme, result in men having empathy for men and women equally.

However, forcing society to raise the status of women as different from men as they are will eventually result in genuine respect. After all, hierarchy is the bigger killer of empathy: men lack empathy for women not because women are different, but because women have less power. Women, after all, have plenty of empathy for men who are very different from them (and it is, again, because they are more powerful.)
